OLD MIDLETON DISTILLERY
The Historic Town of Midleton in East Cork, Ireland has its origins dating back to the 12th century. Midleton derives its name from 'Mainistir na Corann' meaning 'The Abbey of the Coir'. This came from the monastery, which was founded by the Cistercian monks in the early part of the 12th century. In the 19th Century the monastery was destroyed.
A tour of the Old Midleton Distillery is a journey through the story ofIrish whiskey by means of an audio-visual presentation (available in7 languages). Follow the old distillery trail through mills, maltings,corn stores, stillhouse, warehouses and kilns - some of thesebuildings date back to 1795. View the largest pot still in the worldprior to sampling the internationally renowned Jameson Whiskey inthe bar (minerals for children) - perhaps have the opportunity ofbecoming a qualified Irish whiskey taster with presentation ofcertificate before browsing in the exclusive Jameson merchandiseoutlet and craft shops or relaxing in the elegant restaurant on site.
